Getting Ready

So, we made our big REI trip tonight. We buckled down and bought actual comfortable shoes. We will be doing a ton of walking while in Malawi: walking from our home to chapel, school, the clinic, Bible study, other missionaries homes and the Ministry of Hope crisis nursery center. All of those places are less than a mile away from campus (except for MOH which is a little more than a mile away). Nonetheless, we will be making those treks 5 or 6 times a day. While staying in the villages (which we plan to do during school breaks and weekends) we will be walking for miles, as people's homes are very spread out and the Ministry of Hope feeding centers are often in the center of a village.

We also invested in more Nalgene bottles. If you've ever had Dan to your house, you have probably ended up with one of his. It is not unusual for him to lose a bottle once a month or so. And finally, sunglasses! We will probably stock up on those as they are very necessary, yet very easy to lose. Last time we were in Malawi, I dropped mine down the latrine after only one week of being there!

So, there we go. The packing process has begun. We are beginning to price the vendible items around our small apartment as well as getting rid of old journals, clothing and all the other little things that quickly clutter life.

We have received the ABC information packet. It speaks to logistical issues as well as cultural background information. It is good to have a lot of our questions answered. However, we are somewhat nervous about the conservative lifestyle in Africa and are a little weary of being accidentally disrespectful. It is something we will need to be aware of for sure.

We have begun to send out support letters. Be looking for yours in the mail:) If you would like one, or would like information on how to support us while we are in Malawi, please email either Dan or I, or comment on this page and we will get back to you soon. We know that God will provide for our every need, and so trust that He will indeed provide the funds for us to get to Malawi. Please pray about whether or not He might be calling you to give.

That's all we've got for now.
God Bless!
