Me at the clinic, ready to see Eli, but still waiting for Louis to plug the machine into the generator through the window:)
Here I am with trusty Louis and the OLD ultra sound machine.
Anyways, it was a fun appointment. I went home and had a great nap. Then, at 2:30pm, I went next door to Marion's house for my first baby shower. She had her house completely decorated in blue with little diapers everywhere. The cake was even decorated as a diaper pin! Marion had made this really cute diaper wreath with little toys tied onto it. It was really creative.
The diaper pin cake...I had a HUGE piece and enjoyed every bite! Elijah enjoyed it, too as he didn't stop kicking until late into the night.
I got some really cute stuff. Here, you can see the mini 'crocs' that just about made me cry! I have never seen something so cute and so small!!! And yes, there were boys at my baby shower. Sam (behind me) is a Spencer boy (one of Marion's 5 boys). He is a few years older than Charlotte (on the right, one of my students).
Of course, there were tons of baby games. This one was hillarious. Marion had melted 6 candy bars and then put them into a little clothe 'diaper'. We had to smell the 'dirty' diapers and guess which candy bars they were, for a prize. I almost won...but I didn't know what 2 of the candy bars were. I think they were South African, or something.Anyways, it was a cute game.
My friend Connie Dehnert was asked to say a few words, and I was so blessed by her. One thing that really stuck out to me was the need to stay in the word. She talked about making sure you have little snacks instead of hoping to carve out that hour of reading and prayer time. She encouraged me to read while breast feeding, and pray when up in the middle of the night. I hadn't thought about the opportunities I would have to just be with the Lord while taking care of Elijah. It will be hard and very different from my usual quiet time that can last as long as I want, really. Once Elijah comes, I will need to both be creative and protect my time with the Lord. If I am intentional about it, I can use all those breast feeding hours for time with the Lord and praying for other as well as for Elijah.
Having two boys herself, she also encouraged me to let Dan be the dad. Meaning, let him wrestle with Eli, let them play together and get dirty. She made a good point that moms just want to shower kids with love and protect them. That is very good and natural, but boys need to have that crazy outlet, and who better to get it out with then with his daddy!!! I am really excited to see Dan love on Elijah in his own daddy ways.
All in all, it was a wonderful day. I walked away with some cute blankets, two baby hats (Dan loved those!!!), baby bath goodies and two pairs of mini 'croc's (light blue and dark blue and two different sizes!). It was so fun celebrating Elijah with everyone. Please, pray for our little boy, that he would continue to grow and make it to full term. Pray that he will grow up to love the Lord and serve Him with all of his heart.
