Happy Four months Eli!

Elijah is four months old tomorrow. I still cannot believe that I actually have a son. God is so good in giving us a child so unexpectedly. Dan and I are often humbled by the thought that He has entrusted to us a human life. I pray everyday that I will not screw it up, even though I know I will. It is inevitable! BUT, just as God has seen it wise to give Eli to us, He will also, in His wisdom guide us as parents. I have to trust in this. Otherwise, I will freak out way too much!

The other day, I took Eli with me on my usual market shopping trip. The guys that work the stand that I go to had not met Eli yet. They have been asking about him since we returned so I was very excited for them to finally meet him. I pulled up and struggled getting Eli out of the car because there were so many people crowded around trying to sell me anything from mops to pirated Desperate Housewives DVDs. One guy kept saying "You are a wife, you will like these!" referring to the DVDs. Anyways, once my vendor friends caught sight of Eli, they came running toward me! One of them grabbed Eli out of my hands and began walking through the market cheering "ELIJAH, ELIJAH" . Eli had his usual wide eyed look and really didn't mind being paraded around the market while people yelled back "Mzungu Mwana!" which means white baby. I on the other hand said prayers in my head for God to protect him. I know these guys well, and I knew they were just really excited to see Eli, but it still kind of freaked me out. I do love how much Malawians really cherish your children. It's as if they are ready to just take them in as thier own. It's very different from America, and I know I will miss this when we return to the States.

Well, here are some pictures for you to enjoy. Eli has been growing like a weed as you can probably tell. At four months, he is smiling, giggling, blowing bubbles, standing (with help from mom and dad for balance), grabbing and reaching, responding when his name is called (I think he is actually just responding to the sound of people talking to him in general) and almost rolling over. It's funny because he rolled over a lot when he was very little, but then quite. Now, we are working on rolling again, which is why he has so much tummy time.

Wide eyed:

Going to church in his collared shirt.

Tummy time in his diaper. It's been pretty hot lately, so he is usually stripped down to his diaper from 2-4pm.

And now......the chub!

He loves standing in his Johny Jump-Up (or Bubba Bouncer as we like to call it)

Sometimes, he just sits and chews on it, which is fine with me :)

Happy Birthday Elijah. All the very best to you and your family in Malawi. I admire the work people like you are doing in Africa. God bless you all and may He keep you safe during your stay.
Will add you to my prayer list today from Clive in Port Elizabeth South Africa (Member of Walmer Methodist Church)

Oh boy - your story reminds me of the time we went to a Thai restaurant where the owner was friends with Michael's grandparents. She was so excited to see Liam that she snatched him out of my arms and literally ran away with him into the kitchen to show him off to her employees. That was a shocker. Big cultural differences...I had never even met this woman but from her perspective, Liam was practically related to her! The thought was sweet, but it nearly gave me a heart attack.

Aw he is getting so big! Áine just turned 3 months a week ago. I can't believe it. I totally relate to your post--I still can't believe we have been trusted with this beautiful little person. You guys are doing great with him--he looks like such a happy little guy.

Ah, yes, Johnny Jump-up. Whoever invented that deserves every penny he or she gets. You and your brothers used to love that thing. And it is really cool to see all three of you happy and healthy.
