Elijah the African

Elijah loves Christina. When she comes to our house, he follows her where ever she goes. Probably because she picks him up all the time and never lets him cry. That is the Malawian way and I think Elijah prefers it to our "oh, your fine...." cry it out methods. No matter what, Eli cries for 5-10 minutes every time we lay him down for a nap. I guess he's got a rebellious streak like his parents. It always pains Christina to hear him crying himself to sleep, and often tells me over and over again "the baby is crying....you need to give him the milk Bethany....he is crying for it". I always reply "Eli isn't starving. He'll be fine. He's just fighting a nap but will be asleep in a few minutes". Each time, Christina is so surprised that Elijah actually falls asleep on his own! It's so funny.

Yesterday, Christina taught me how to wear Elijah the African way. He didn't mind being on Christina's back. He got a little wiggly, but then kind of settled into it.

He actually looks comfortable. A little bundle of baby with his big head sticking out.

When I tried to put Eli on my back, I almost dropped him! That made his fussy (and it was nap time) and he was MAD about being on my back. Hahaha...it was funny, though. Look how crooked he is on me! I am thankful for my sling.

Dan, Andy and Eli did some gardening yesterday evening. Elijah just loves being outside. He also loves being with the guys.

What will we be doing this weekend????

Dan will be grading and I will be reading/taking care of Eli. We are keeping it low key. Oh, wait.....that's what we do every weekend! I'm enjoying the quiet moments more and more. We will be back in America in 4 months! The land of food, shopping , endless options and plans. I am definitely a people person, so I easily get lonely here, but I have also learned to enjoy the slow pace of life here. Knowing it will only last another 4 months makes me want to soak it in. So, grading, reading and taking care of baby continues to fill our time, weekend after weekend.

Yes, I am the luckiest mom in the world. I get to hang out with this little rocker guy (check out his Mohawk!) all weekend long! His cold has almost cleared up. Thankfully, we were not hit that bad this time.

I've been dying to know how to do that sort of sling/wrap! He looks so cute in there! I will pray about loneliness for you. I understand the feeling!

Love the baby wrap! If only they had cool fabrics like that here to use!

Bethany, he gets cuter every time you post! I LOVE the hair! And the wrap. I think my skills would look much like yours...that is why I love my new one, it is all connected--no tying. Looking forward to seeing you in 4 months but will be praying those 4 months are such a sweet time for you guys there. Blessings!
