We have survived the first week of school, barely! But really, it was a great week full of challenges, lack of sleep and a lot of fun. My students are so adorable!!! I have 21 students as of Wednesday. Another one came on board, and she is such a sweetie, but it has been challenging bringing her in. Actually, it is God's way of teaching me that things will NOT be perfect and that I need to be way more flexible with my plans. The other reception class has 17 students, and I have considered switching a few of my kids over to lesson the load. However, I realized today how much I am already falling in love with each and everyone of my students, even the difficult ones. I know that the Lord was very intentional when He put brought Dan and I here to Malawi, and He makes no mistakes in His planning and providing for us. I know that He will provide the strength and creativity that I will need to make this class situation work during the year.
My lil ones during snack time. I love it when it gets close to snack time, because all talk about is how their tummies are paining them. "My tummy pains me" means that they are hungry. It's so cute!
All week, we have focused on the color red, the number zero, the letter Ii, and the circle. It has been fun to direct these little children while they explore and learn about new concepts. Teaching them to write is sooooo much more exciting than I ever imagined! I am really enjoying teaching. I am so tired, still trying to catch up on work and get a schedule figured out, but the first week went well. I had a couple of criers but that was to be expected. Oh, and today I began the day with a big paint spill on my skirt and the floor. It was great though, because the kids thought it was HILARIOUS! So, we laughed about it, and I just told everyone that I was wearing my tie dye skirt today. We also had a birthday celebration for one of my students, and got to eat pink cupcakes, so that was really fun. I am looking forward to resting and catching up on things over the weekend.
I have been able to visit the Ministry of Hope Crisis Nursery twice this week! Oh, I have missed the babies!!! It is so wonderful to get out of my classroom and be with those little ones. I think there are about 25 or 30 babies there right now. Most of them look pretty healthy, but there were a few with bad coughs. Please keep those babies in your prayers. A friend of ours who teaches at the Academy is trying to adopt right now, and told us that under 10 children were adopted in Malawi last year. Please pray that more will be adopted this year, by Malawian families. I know that God is their father, and He loves them, but please pray that He would have mercy on these little souls, that they might know and understand God through an adopted family.
On a light note, just wanted to give you a Malawi sound...here is a bird that I like to call the "LOOK AT ME" bird. Actually, there are a few that I call by that name, mostly because they sound really impatient to me. It's pretty funny. Alright, until next time.
