So we have been here a week. It feels as though we've been here a life time. We love our little home with our garden out back. In fact, almost our entire meal last night came from our garden and we have fresh papaya growing outback, too!!! It's so fun to walk to work and our friends houses.
Two nights ago, Dan and I cooked our first meal together in Africa. It was fun using all fresh vegetables and such, but the fun stopped when our power went out 10 minutes before we were done. We did some research with the Stoms and found out that Connie (one of the Academy teachers who lives up the hill) has a gas stove. So we ventured out to use her fire and thankfully were able to have dinner (in the dark, again). Last night, dinner was postponed because the water was turned off by the city (don't ask me why). We are learning that the earlier we cook, the better chance we have of actually eating!
Yesterday, I went down to the school again to check things out. I quickly found out that if you want something done, you really have to do it yourself. Meaning that no one is really there to show you around or get you supplies. I did sit down with another teacher and we went over curriculum and other details. That was really good for me to have a better picture of what the school day will look like. The pre-k class is called Reception here, and it is modeled after the British school system. I was surprised at how academic the curriculum is for these little 4 and 5 yr olds. I am really excited to get to know my students and guide them through the year.
My classroom is huge, but then again, I have 20 students. I am having a mural painted on one of my walls with fish and sea creatures. There is a lot to be done before next week (registration). The most important thing is learning all of the names of my students. I have NO idea how to pronounce most of them! That will be a challenge.
My classroom. It's a mess!

We are still trying to get things figured out with a phone and a car. It is hard to get these things done, because we are so dependent on others to help us, and everyone is so busy. We know that the Lord will provide as He always has. We just need to be patient, knowing that God also works things in His own good timing.
