Le Louvre
So yesterday began with big rains, thunder and lightning. It was kind of scary because the lightning was striking right outside our hotel window. We spent the morning in our room reading and taking care of some details for ABC. Once the rain quieted down a little bit, we went out for lunch, where I asked our waitress "ou est le salle de bain?" which means "where is the bathroom?". Once she began laughing at me, I realized that I should have said "ou est le toilette?" because here, they say salle de bain for if you are going to actually bathe or shower. I had forgotten that. It was really funny.
We then made our way to Le Louvre. We had a nice walk in the misty rain. It felt very much like Seattle. It was nice to have a cool day because the previous day was really hot.
We spent about 3 hours in Le Louvre (about as much as we could before our legs gave out). We actually saw a lot of Egyptian artifacts and mummies (including a collection of cat mummies!) My favorite thing was actually the architecture of the interior. I also really enjoyed walking through Napoleon's living quarters. Oh, and the sculptures were huge!
After le Louvre, we spent some time in the Latin district where the Notre Dame is. We had some food and just walked around. There are millions of little shops everywhere and plenty of good places to eat. The streets are barely big enough for a single car.
We stepped into the Notre Dame for a little bit, but not long enough. We hope to go there again today and spend more time up top.
Last night, I think the lack of sleep hit me, and I fell asleep at 8pm while Dan finished setting up Skype. Now, we are on our way to breakfast. Of course there are many things that we have planned for today, but we will see if we have the energy. Our feet are still hurting from yesterday!
