Well, Saturday, Dan and I left with our friends Ari and Owen to go to Blantyre. The story goes a little something like this:
Two weeks ago, we were looking at a great RVR (mini van looking thing) and it was a great price. However, we still felt like it was something we could drive to Mozambique in. As well, we couldn't get the cash in time because we hadn't opened up a Malawian bank account yet, and so on. We decided to give the car the nayno and continue looking. Well, last Wednesday, Dan accompanied some friends to Blantyre, which is the biggest city in Malawi and is a four hour drive away from Lilongwe. It even has billboards! And the landscape is different from Lilongwe, more hilly.
He spent all day looking at cars, and just at the last moment, he ran into a man who was selling a Nissan Terrano (Basically a pathfinder). When Dan got home, he told me about how great this car is and what good shape it is in (especially compared to all the other cars we have seen). We decided to go back to Blantyre on Saturday. Ari, Owen, Dan and I drove to Blantyre Saturday morning and after spending too much time at Game (the South African version of Wal-Mart!!!) we bought the car. We got back lastnight, just in time for dinner and bed before school today. Below is Dan and I with our bricks of cash, ready to buy the car. (The U.S. dollar is about 140 Kwacha. Anytime we go to the ATM, we walk away with a brick of cash, because you have thousands of Kwacha which is only about 50-70 bucks)
We are very happy to have our own wheels! Please pray that the Lord will use this car for His glory. Pray that we will be safe driving and that the Lord will protect us while we are on the road.
In other news, things have gotten much busier around here. I have began teaching piano lessons (very beginner) to my friend's children. I am very excited about it, as it means that I will be also practicing what I know. As well, I will be tutoring and guiding a few older students at ABCCA in their second year French studies. PLEASE pray for this, because I will need to brush up on my own French! But of course, I am so excited about that as well. I am encouraged to see the Lord using me in ways I haven't expected.
