We Thanked the Lord Today

Today marked the official beginning of the rainy season. Last year it came about mid-December, so we are extremely relieved. It really has been quite oppressive, and so my heart has been singing to the Lord all day long because of the relief we have gotten. For a Seattle boy, I am pretty desperate to get out of heavy heat. I have contented myself with Seattle's end of the spectrum (cold, wet toes) so that I can rightfully complain about this end of the spectrum, hot sweaty everything all the time. I don't know how many times I have woken up at 3am covered in sweat. Not because of a dream, but because despite the two fans we have, it is still 85 degrees in our room.

To evidence some of these things we have taken pictures of some the physical manifestations of the thermal oppression..... that is to say 'its this bad'

Here is a candle of ours, back in mid to late October. It got progressively droopier until it was completely useless and we threw it away.

This was just last week. It would have pointed directly down were it not for some of the little dried drips in the way. This pretty much sealed the deal for me; its ridiculously hot.

Here's the cheezy little metal ring they glued on the bottom of our light shade. The glue started melting, leaving the ring hanging by a thread. (I'm betting it will probably fall on Beth, that sort of thing would happen to her.)

And of course one of the latest Eli photos. Our good friend Andy spotted this great poster at the local Lebanese grocery store, entitled "Little Dolphin's Illuminating Pictures for Baby" with a baby tiger and bear playing with blocks on top.

Eli loves this poster, and really wants you to see it.

Yup, its a poster filled with guns. One of my favorites is the handgun that says "gat" underneath it. Under the tanker plane in the upper right corner, is the Tommy Gun. Ah, nothing like Baby's first words; scatter gun, howitzer, fighter plane, bulldog (revolver), dagger, grenade, mine.

Well, that's all for now. Praise the Lord the rains have come. Not only are they great for general comfort of life here, but they water the crops for the people. This is something the people pray for constantly since they are so dependent on the rains coming for food. There really isn't irrigation here (though they are working on it), so its a big deal for the people of Malawi that the rains come. The Lord is all that's good. Amen
