Weekend update

Well, we had a fun weekend with a huge rain storm on Sunday! The clouds were dark, the winds were fast and the rains were hard.

So hard in fact that it came through our front door a little bit (I am working on not exaggerating everything. Believe me, I wanted to say that our house was flooding! It sure felt like it!).

What better thing to do after a rain storm than play in HUGE mud puddles? The McDonald and Jones children had a blast!

This weekend, I made buttermilk biscuits for the first time and found that they were actually very easy. Of course you cannot get buttermilk here but you can substitute it with 1 Tbl cider vinegar and milk to make a cup. We had them with a southern dinner (crispy chicken, mac & cheese-thanks mom!, and corn on the cob) and then the next morning we made ham & egg buscuit sandwiches with them. Mmmmmmm.

My first time baking bread. I have done this once with Rebecca, but this was my first attempt all by my lonesome. It turned out so well, we've almost eaten an entire loaf already!

I also made some tasty carrots for Elijah this weekend. He seems to like them but not as much as the green beans. Hmm...next we work on squash.

Elijah plays at the table after a yummy meal.

Watching the rain with his toy, the plug. (yeah, it's pretty much a toy as he won't actually use it most times, but we like it because it reminds us of cousin Amos)

Uncle Owen feeds Elijah his dinner before our usual Friday night dinner at the Chinchen's.

Elijah shows his skills in his Bubba Bounce-up. He actually swings in it more than he bounces.

Talking in the bath tub and making bubbles (both kinds)

Hope you all had a great weekend. Now, back to work!

Okay...the accent over the A. On a Mac you first do option + E which makes the accent mark highlighted in yellow. Then you just hit A(or whatever other letter) and it puts the accent over that letter. For a PC you do: Alt + 0193 = Á I have not actually tired it on a PC but the information is compliments of Dan Ribera so I think it is good.
Eli is SO cute! Are you making all his food? I plan to do Áine's too. We bought a few jars to get us started until I get my supplies together for making it. We just started yesterday. Just cereal and peas so far but she is super interested in it. I will be posting pics soon on the blog. Also, she plays with the "plug" too--never was very interested in using it for it's intended purpose but it makes a great teething toy. Love your blog and the videos. The bread looks great!

Hey, Beth- Thanks for the pre-birthday wishes! I've been learning to bake bread lately also. Like you, I was totally afraid of working with yeast. After one bad experience, I'd been scarred. Your loaves and biscuits look fantastic! You're making me hungry....
