We have power!!! Electricity, that is. For a little over a week, we have had very littler power. Most times, we only have power throughout the night. Our generator is broken (the one up the hill on campus- lower campus has power)), which has given us a chance to live like most people live in Lilongwe. I'm still not sure why the electricity goes out so often, though.
Anyways, it's been one lesson of patience after another. It has taken me 3 days to do one load of laundry. Each time I start the washer, the power goes out! Then, late last night, I finally got it washed and put into the dryer, then the power goes out again. Like I said, it's been a lesson in patience. Thankfully, I think we have had enough electricity to keep our food from spoiling, as far as I know.
Another thing we have is Internet!!! We have been without for a while now. I am so excited to be able to connect with you again and maybe do some posts from the comfort of my own home (although I am very thankful for those neighbors who have gladly shared their connection with us).
There is something very important I need you to pray for. Christina, our babysitter, has a sister-in-law named Agnes who works for a Liberian lady in town. She has been accused of stealing from her boss (quite a hefty amount of cash) and has been in Maula prison for the past 10 days. Read the beginning of this post and it will give you a small idea of what living in this prison is like.
Agnes has worked for this lady for a long time, and Christina believes that her sister-in-law would never steal from her boss. Agnes appeared in court on Friday, but her boss didn't show up. So, she was sent back to prison until they can meet again this Friday. There are no witnesses and no proof, and yet, I am afraid that Agnes' boss has a louder voice if you know what I mean. I need you to pray for Agnes while she waits at Maula. Pray that she can be an encouragement to the other women there, as she is a Christian. Also, pray for the upcoming hearing on Friday. Pray that the truth would be made known and that Agne's boss would be fare and gracious and not just looking for someone to blame.
Christina is also very troubled about this. Pray for her as she takes care of this situation as well as her family. I am hoping to go visit Agnes in prison with the ABC outreach team on Thursday, if I can find a babysitter.
Thank you for your care and prayers for our friends here.
