Bienvenue à notre café français!

On Friday, my French class opened a French café just for the day. It was partly as a fundraiser for the 9th grade trip they will take at the end of the day. Also, it was a great way for them to use their French, and I made it count as two quiz grades. (yeah, they loved that part, ha!)

We were open before and after school. That meant I was up at 5:30am making coffee. I couldn't sleep the night before because I was so worried about everything getting done. The students worked hard, though and we actually pulled it off. Here are some pictures from the day:

Happy customers, our neighbors the Jones'.

The Jones' had a popcorn concession stand made for their son Sam's birthday party. We used it for our store front and it worked perfectly.

La Carte!

My father in law, Tom got me this really cute French Trivia game for Christmas last year. I taped a few of the Trivia cards on our store front. Anyone who was able to answer one of the questions, they got a free coffee. I was impressed that a few people were about to answer more than one question! Here are some of the questions:
1. True or False: Parisians consume an average of 45 lbs of cheese a year.

2. During World War II, Germany occupied Paris for :
a. 1 year
b. 2 years
c. 4 years
d. 6 years

3.Which of the following is of French origin:
a. French Fries
b. French Toast
c. French dressing
d. None of the above

4. True or False: The French government regulates the price of baguettes.

5. True or False: The Latin Quarter gets its name because it was home to so many Roman Catholic churches.

6.Salvador Dali created a famous tree structure in Paris, made from:
a. Bread dough
b.Chocolate
c. Marzipan paste
d. Spoons

Try to guess without doing research!!! Leave your answers in the comment section and I will post later this week with the the correct answers. Come on, this will be fun! We play this trivia game often during class.

We also sold different pastries with our coffee. Here, my student Caleb talks with the President of ABC, Dr. Paul Chinchen.

The students got really into it and drew on mustaches. They are so cute!!!

My students enjoying une tasse du café before they had to go back to class. I was worried that they would be all hyped up on caffeine, but it turns out it gave them energy for the day and they actually got their work done!
Merci Beacoup!
