Last Friday was pie day for many reasons.
Reason #1:
It was March 13th (the closest day to the actual Pi day that we had school) and so Dan's math classes celebrated by bringing in tons of yummy pies.
This is the 9th grade-yeah, a very small class! They were playing Uno since it was just pie day. Eli loves coming to visit the students. I do feel bad for the 9th grade, though. They have both Dan and I for teachers every day but Thursdays. Oh well, what doesn't kill them will make them stronger, right?
Fuzzy, but still captures the joy Elijah feels when at school.
Reason #2:
The Academy talent show was on Friday night. It was a fund raiser for the 9th grade and at the end, they had a pie auction. Although they all looked very yummy, I had already enjoyed my share of pie that day, and wasn't willing to give up to thousands of Kwacha for a pie!
Reason #3:
Another cute thing the 9th grade did at the Talent show was collect money for a competition. There were two boxes, one for Mr. Passwater (our neighbor Andy) and one for Mr. Hiroto (our other neighbor and head teacher, Kellen). Whoever had the most Kwacha in their box by the end of the night was gonna get pied (as Dan likes to say)! Well, it was no surprise that Andy got the most Kwacha, and so we all enjoyed watching him get pied!
And now for more pictures of the talent show:
Dan was the announcer. Everyone was surprised by his old British man alter-ego. He was really funny, but the only ones who understood his jokes were the grown ups. All the little kids kept asking me why he was being so weird. It was hilarious.
Eli sat with the girls for a little bit. Charlotte (on the left) and Bess (on the right) helped Dr. Chinchen tell a story in Liberian English.
The two girls on the left are my French students.
This little first grader did an Indian dance all by herself. She was my favorite by far.
5th grade Ballet club
Middle school boys performed to 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor. I loved Caleb on the mini drum set. It was so funny.
There were lots of other singing, dancing and musical acts but it's taking too long to upload the photos.
