Visiting friends part 1

Macleod is our friend who works in the resource room at ABCCA. Elijah and I love to visit him before my class. In southern culture, children call their elders Maam and Sir. Well, in Malawian culture, children call their elders uncle and auntie. Macloed is Eli's uncle, as well as our brother. He is a really fun guy and we've enjoyed getting to know him. We went to see Macloed and his wife on Saturday who has just had a baby girl, their first child. We imediately switched babies when we got there. It was fun to hold a newborn again and made it hard to believe that Elijah was that little just 9 momths ago!

Diana (the baby) must have known we were coming, because she put on her Seattle Mariners shorts.

Eli was a good boy during our visit but got a little restless near the end. We went outside to play with the neighborhood kids and he loved it. They showed me a new trick, a way to get Elijah to stand on his own without falling. At first, I was worried and almost went over to save him, but then found that it actually worked. They stood him up against the wall and then left him there to stand on his own! We've been doing this at home, and encouraging him to take a step towards us. He still seems a little scared, but he also gets really excited about standing by himself and "taking a step" forward (leaning towards us and then us catching him). It is funny to me how interested he is in walking when he hasn't even mastered crawling yet.

I think some kids sort of skip, or breeze over the crawling and go straight to walking. Maybe that is what Eli is focused on. Maybe he is thinking "I don't have time for this crawling business, I want to be a big boy and walk!" Anyway, that is a funny trick because you know those kids know that because they "tried" it with their younger sibling or something! haha! I admit, I plan to try it tomorrow--:)! I enjoyed all the new posts. Will be praying for God's provision for your unexpected costs.
