We had fun at the CARNIVAL!

This Friday in Reception, Ari and I put together a carnival. We had balloons, games, a clown, face painting and other activities. The picture below is of a student throwing a wet sponge at Mr. Grey the TA, trying to knock off the apple on top of his head!!! It was so much fun. We called it our "A Carnival" because we were learning the letter Aa this week, hence all the apples. The face painting could only be things beginning with Aa. Our photo booth had planets in the background, giving the impression that the kids were being astronauts in outer space.

Above: Dan even made it down to the carnival, wore funny glasses and did some tricks for the kids. Below: Owen and I being funny with the kids (These are those same glasses as above. Aren't they so creepy?)

Here are some of my students bobbing for apples. They did pretty well with most of them getting an apple or two.

Ari and I put together a little photo booth where the kids loved to climb in and have there pictures taken by the mystery camera through the hole.
You can see above, these girls with their apples painted on their faces. Thankfully, most of the kids wanted apples and not alligators (although there were a few that I had to paint, and they mostly looked like green blobs on their cheeks)

Following the carnival, we went to our usual chapel, but this week, my class sang the special song to the rest of the classes. Here is a video of my kids singing "This little light of mine"

Friday night, we went to a fund raising event held by the Wild Life center here in Lilongwe. The musical guest was Elvis straight from the UK. Of course, being my mother's daughter, I went, danced and had a great time! It was sooo funny to see and Elvis impersonator here in Malawi. RANDOM!

The rest of our weekend was great, having much time to be together, read and relax. It's amazing how tired you get here. The days are getting hotter and I am sleeping more and more.
Today, we spent the afternoon at the Ministry of Hope Crisis Nursery Center. They had an open house, hoping to introduce more people to their ministry and get more help from the community. It was amazing to hear about the babies from the Social worker. One baby boy is 7 months old, but not much bigger than Amos when he came home from the hospital. I think he is about 5 or 6 lbs. Another little girl I met today is HIV positive. It is really hard to see those babies in such need, and yet you know that they are in a great place. I held a baby girl named Estre who is one of triplets. Her parents weren't able to take care of all three of the babies, so Estre has been at the nursery for months until her family can take care of her. She happens to be going home on Tuesday. We rejoiced with the workers and Estre when we heard the good news! I will post some picture later. Definitely visit the MOH web page that is linked to this blog.

I'm so bummed I missed your call on Sunday! :( It was such a suprize to hear your sweet voice on my voice mail. I can't quite figure out when it's ok to call you back, but I intend to do it this weekend, hopefully I catch you when you are awake!
Chad & I continue to hold you both in our thoughts & prayers. The seasons are changing in seattle & I can't help but long for an opportunity for coffee & conversation with you.
